Day 3: 01/18/22

Scripture:

Matthew 28:19

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Devotion:

The mission we are given as believers to make disciples of all nations can feel quite intimidating and overwhelming. It can seem like we are not fulfilling this mission unless we are traveling across the world to tell everyone we meet about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While that can be and is the mission for some, it is not the calling for all, and yet everyone can fulfill this mandate. All of us occupy different territory for brief or extended periods of time in our day-to-day, whether at our place of employment, the school we attend, the stores we shop at, or the homes we visit; these places are the nations that we are called to enter to spread the gospel and make disciples. The word “disciple” is derived from the Latin words, “discere” and “discipulus,” meaning “learn” and “learner.” A disciple is simply a learner, or student, of the Gospel. To become a student of the Gospel, a teacher is needed. This scripture calls each of us to teach the Gospel by the way we live our lives (in both word and action). Saint Francis of Assisi says it like this: “Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.”

Prayer:

God, help me to live in such a way that my life preaches Your Gospel. May Your Word be evident in the words I speak, the actions I take, and the way I love, serve, give, and care for others.
