4 Ways to Increase Productivity when you’re BURNT | Hannah

Have you ever had those weeks where you’re just bursting with energy and you feel better than superwoman? Then after keeping up that energetic act for a few days or weeks you crash and burn.

That was me just a few weeks ago. After taking a 6 week crash course of chemistry, I was burnt out. It seemed like motivation to do anything was gone. My brain was tired, my spirit was exhausted, and I swore if I saw one more periodic table anytime soon I would for sure lose it! But my life kept moving and the world doesn’t stop just because I’m tired.
So here is what I did to get back my motivation and be productive again:
1. I gave myself the proper rest I needed. I think some of the wisest people are those that LISTEN to their body when their body says STOP. I went to bed early and slept in as long as I could before my son woke up. I allowed myself to rest.

2. I let my mind rest. After being on my computer everyday for nearly 8 hours, my brain was mush. I limited my screen time and didn’t over stimulate my brain. I started reading, listening to music, did some light cleaning around the house and just let my mind take a break.

3. I released some endorphins. When I was in my Chemistry class, I was up everyday at 4:30 AM to prepare myself to have a good 60 minute workout. So you can imagine how tired my body was when those 6 weeks were finished. I knew I still needed to exercise, but I also knew I needed to pace myself. I did light intensity that was just enough to challenge me and allow me to break a sweat. Even my 20 minute workouts turned my frown upside down.

4. I made a list of what I want to conquer next. With school starting again and life continuing to go on, I needed to lay out some goals I have for myself moving forward. So I made a list of what I want to achieve, and across from what I want to achieve, I wrote what I need to do to get there. I look at it daily as a gentle reminder to get things done and that I’ve done hard things before. I listened to a sermon a few days ago with my husband and the man said something along the lines of, “ Exceptional people see an obstacle and overcome it. Mediocre people see an obstacle and stop.” WOW. I’m sure we all know someone that when the road gets a little tough, they quit. And I’m sure you also know someone who has an immensely huge challenge in front of them and they conquer it!! I want to conquer things. I want to do hard things and I don’t want small inconveniences to completely derail me. I want to be strong.

So if you are in a slump right now with no motivation and you’ve been anything but productive lately, that’s ok. We’re all there from time to time. Take the time to rest and try the steps I listed. And remember, no season lasts forever. ✨
