Local Business Highlight | Hem of His Garment

In this series, we are going to highlight women that are taking leaps of faith in creating their own businesses and dominating in their fields.

We asked Diana to tell us about her clothing line Hem of His Garment. Read below to hear about a local small business owner’s story in the making!

What is Hem of His Garment Company? “The Hem of His Garment is a faith-based & God-inspired collection intended to bring hope and comfort in the mundane moments of our day-to-day life. My conviction is to empower all people to joyfully navigate through life in the lowest valleys as well as the highest highs. Our every day apparel and merch is created to serve as a constant reminder of the power within you. The purpose of this brand is to share Gods love.”

How did you come up with your name?

“The name was a direct inspiration from reading in my Bible about the healing touch of Jesus (Mark 5:21-34). To sum it up, a woman had suffered from bleeding for twelve years and had spent all she had on physicians searching for a cure, to no avail. So when the woman heard about Jesus, she kept saying, “If only I touch His garment, I will be healed”(Mark 5:28). Sure enough, when she reached out in faith to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she was immediately healed of her affliction, her bleeding stopped. I also testify, his garment made me clean of my affliction. I searched the world but it couldn’t fill me. That’s why I chose this name; to serve as a powerful reminder that there’s no affliction too great we’ll ever face, we can find healing for all things in Jesus. In fact the purpose of our greatest afflictions is for us to learn to rely on God and not ourselves. “When you are hanging by a thread, make sure it is the hem of his garment.” Your faith will always make you well. “

When did you get inspired to create this company?

”Creating my own brand was an idea I’ve had for years, but it was exactly March 2nd, 2021 that I decided I would name my brand “The Hem of His Garment”, I had no other plan in mind but I was inspired this day to make my logo. I didn’t take another step until June, I decided to start a simple T-shirt collection with god-inspired designs. From then I’ve taken it day by day, seeking God’s voice, to do his will, not mine. “

What is your favorite garment to date?

“ To date my favorite piece is the “Prayer is my superpower” T-shirt. We have the resurrection power of God in us, and that’s prayer. Initially I had shared with a friend I wanted to write a book called “Prayer is my Superpower”, but for now it’s just a shirt design. Book to come some day.”

Where do you see your company going?

“ I think in Gods perfect time, this will be a massive brand and source of inspiration for many. I have high hopes that this is just the beginning of my ministry journey. The ultimate goal is to be able to go nonprofit, so I can go on missions and build resource centers all around the world. Not only do I want to share the good news of Christ, but I also want to provide in every way for the needy.”

What advice would you give to someone looking to start a brand?

“There is an abundant need in this world for your exact brand of beautiful. Others success does not threaten our own, all tides rise when we a see a person making this world a better place with their gifts. We’re made for God-sized dreams. Never stop praying for things that seem impossible. Whatever God puts on your heart, just do it. The amount of followers, supporters or sales you make do not matter if the objective is to spread love. Worldly success is a byproduct of walking in obedience. Step out in faith, what we already have is more than enough to do all the work. The fruitfulness of the world is guaranteed.”

Tell us about your design process

“I make reading my bible a daily habit and prioritize seeking God, then I receive inspiration from my time in his presence. Aforesaid, all designs are God-inspired, and I use the circuit design space to bring my ideas to life. “

What was the biggest struggle in making this come to life?

“Believing in myself/my potential to make an impact through a brand & the idea that I didn’t have what it takes to start a business (e.g. expertise, finances, knowledge, resources, etc.)”

Here is Diana’s personal bio:

My name is Diana Isabel Contreras, my mom chose to name me Diana after Princess Diana, she had hopes I’d be be noble like her, and coincidentally I am a single mom of two boys just like Princess Diana. My middle name means “God is my oath”, which is the reason my mom picked it. When my mom was pregnant with me, her doctor told her I’d be born with mental disabilities, this instilled fear in both my dad and her, causing them to doubt if they could properly care for me. My mom took her doubts and fears to a church and prayed on her knees that I would be born healthy or that God would give her the wisdom to know how to care for me however I was born. Here I am 23 years later and I’m healthy as can be, I was born with no mental disorders as predicted. I like to think this plays a huge role in my purpose, and because of my birth story, losing my dad at 16, and every other trial I’ve faced in life, I just want to share the love of God; it is by grace and through faith that I’m standing here today.
