Hey! Want to learn how to start a blog? Me too. Learn from me, a beginner who will make tons of mistakes and tell you exactly what they were and how I fixed them. This post is all about the first steps in creating a blog.

Step One

Create a Website

Okay so I love designing, being creative and helping people. I decided one day I would try giving a blog a shot to see if I can do all those things AND make money online doing just that.

The first step in my becoming a blogger journey was to create a blog. There are many user friendly websites to help create your blog website: WIX, SquareSpace, Shopify, etc. Personally, I have played with all three and found WIX to be the easiest and most attractive looking websites. No, I don't mean your website will excel in relationships... I mean the free blog themes WIX offers look clean and professional. You want to look like your are putting in the time and effort into your blog so make sure you also buy your domain.

Are any of the websites you visit often named "blank.ididntbuymydomain.com" or "blank.com"? Usually the second option right? Invest in your blog and purchase the domain! Agencies also take you more seriously if you bought the domain.

Step Two

Designing your Space

To put it simple, you need to design your website to attract your audience based upon your niche. What are you writing about? Food, relationships, style, education? Make a space that embodies the information you are trying to relay. Choose a color palette and make it look visually appealing.

Take some time to research. Look at the websites of your favorite bloggers. Write down what you like on their pages. Look up successful bloggers in your niche and learn from their site. It is okay to be inspired, but not okay to copy. If there is something you take from another blogger, give them credit! There is enough space on the internet for all of us bloggers to be successful.

Wix makes it easy by providing free themes and templates. I chose to go for a minimal, clean, black & white vibe. I am providing information to help educate, uplift, and inspire women of all ages. I want my main focus to be the writing and the photos I plan on taking.

Step Three

What in the World Are You Going to Write About

Being a blogger entails lots and lots of writing! Have you heard of writer's block? Yes it happens. The best way to face it is to be prepared.

I opened up my iPhone's notepad app and just took a moment to jot down 10 random ideas. If I think of more, I keep adding to the list so I can look to on a day when I'm just staring at my computer blankly.

Another option is to use random topic generators. Go to Hubspot.com and type in keywords relating to your niche. It will pop up 5 free ideas and you can unlock more with purchase. Usually, those five ideas get my mind going. Even if I don't use anything on there, it usually sparks up my minds creativity enough to brainstorm a topic I'm interested in.

Step Four

Publish your First Couple of Blog Posts and MARKET YOURSELF

You've got to get your name out there. Tell everyone you know on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, whatever it may be, use ALL your socials to promote your work.

Don't doubt your work, and don't delay your writing in efforts of trying to get close to perfection. You NEED to go all in. Feedback will come, and that is how you will perfect your skills and content.

Even try using socials as random as neighborhood app. You never know where your audience is hiding out. Your lifelong fan may just be waiting to see your blog promoted on other apps.

Step Five

Create a Content Schedule

I went through a couple of websites looking for the easiest format to organize my scheduling. Now that you are in the steps of becoming a blogger, it's up to you how successful your blog becomes. Google's algorithm will begin to favor your content the more consistent your content is. Post often and post on a schedule!

Organize your ideas and track progress on Trello.com. This was my favorite organizer in my search for help with blog post planning. It also has options to design the color scheme which I LOVE. When I can design content to my liking, it helps motivate and excite me. I love looking at my post progress.

And that is it! I just started with you friend. Follow my journey in trying to use my creative skills to make money from home. As a momma, I want to spend the most time with my babies but I'm also very career-oriented. This momma is going to find a way to make money online and help women do the same.
